Some I'm aware of include: * NFS by default (without the no_root_squash option) gives root very little permission to do anything; * xscreensaver won't lock the screen when run as root http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#root-lock ; * postfix won't deliver e-mail to root users (it expects to forward it to a normal user account); Many programs will change their behaviour if they find that they are running with root privileges. If you want to have the intended user experience, log in as a real user...
