I have seen some errors generated by having the drives misjumpered on a cable select cable (almost all IDE cables of the ultra type are cable select - with 3 different colored connectors). Those cables are designed to have the master on the end connector (black) and the slave on the center connector (gray). Jumpering them otherwise can cause errors. I personally always just jumper the drive to CS and then the cable position decides what it is (master or slave). > Thanks for the sanity check ;) > > On 20/11/06, bruce <bedouglas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > hi adam... > > > > not to imply that this might be your issue... but i had something similar > > with a drive i was dealing with a few weeks ago. turned out to be a simple > > problem in that i hadn't plugged in the data cable completely, and that i > > hadn't properly configured the master/slave jumpers completely. > > > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: fedora-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx > > [mailto:fedora-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Adam Hough > > Sent: Monday, November 20, 2006 10:52 AM > > To: For users of Fedora > > Subject: Re: Hard Drive Error Disk or Motherboard? > > > > > > Have your tried testing the power supply yet? > > > > On Mon, 2006-11-20 at 18:48 +0000, Paul Ward wrote: > > > Hi, > > > > > > I started having a problem this morning after I added an extra drive > > > to my ide1 channel as a slave. > > > After only 60 seconds the following messages started to appear on my > > > tty1 screen. > > > I immediatly removed the new disk and tried again with the same messages. > > > Next thing was removing and changeing the ide cable again this did not > > work. > > > > > > I have read the following from another post but am unsure if this > > > would work also the file hardware does not exist on my FC5. > > > > > > I would like to add the board was running windozes a few years back > > > and it started having disk problems.
