Yes, I could go along with that.  Probably even worse than lynx.

Tried that before, about the only difference I could see was
colourisation of the output.  It was still a bastard to navigate
through.

I can't recall what thread that was.  I can see one (potential) problem
with doing that:  

If you use local DNS servers to resolve local machine names, only the
local one will do that.  If your PCs try to use the ISP's DNS servers to
resolve a local machine, it'll fail.
