Hosts file - error or feature in FC 6 clean install

In order to get gnofract4d to work, I had to change the following line in my 
hosts file from 
::1    sorrel  localhost.localdomain   localhost
to
127.0.0.1       sorrel  localhost.localdomain   localhost

I had never seen the "::1" line before, and am wondering if this an error or 
something new.
