But most people don't need that functionallity any more. When sendmail first
came on the scene there was more than one network and it was often used
as a gateway and needed to be able to rewrite addresses when transferring
messages between different networks. (Networks being Bitnet, Arpanet, UUnet and
the like rather than physical networks.)
