I'd suggest you try the latest XFCE 4.4 RC 2 (should be available in
FC6/extras).
Both Terminal and Thunar (File manager) have improved XFCE considerably.

However, XFCE 4.4 is much more resource intensive, causing me to switch
to IceWM on my aging laptop ;)
