That's the sort of thing that "volume groups" can do, at least.  There's
probably other ways, as well.

But doing so can have one big disadvantage:  If either drive fails, it
may render the whole storage system unreadable, not just what's on that
particular drive.  You might be better just using the smaller one as
a /usr partition.
