Did you do a "yum update yum" followed by a "yum update" to make sure everything was properly updated? Or did you just do a "yum update kernel"? If the latter then it is not surprising that it is hanging. Not everything got updated and a lot of stuff may be interfering. If the former and it is still hanging it may not have completed the update properly. What I have done to fix either one is boot back to the original kernel in run level 3, then repeat the yum update to finish it as cleanly as possible before booting into the newer kernel. Although my system is not necessarily the same hardware wise as others it seems to work for me. One other thing that can be a real problem is failing to update the video driver and X before booting into the new kernel. That can definitely cause an apparent hang. > > > > Intel Pentium D Dual Core 805 2.667Ghz 533FSB 2x1Mb cache LGA775 CPU, > > 512Mb DDR2 533Mhz memory, > > Intel D102GGC2L motherboard, > > Intel High Definition Audio, > > High Performance 80Gb SATA II 7200 8Mb cache HDD with NCQ, > > ATI Radeon Express 200 graphics, > > > > I'd appreciate any hints as how to resolve this issue. > > my athlon 2200 box will not boot this kernel either. but it sure hangs > up earlier in the process (see my earlier posts looking for help a week > or so ago). > > i was attempting to move from kernel 2174 to 2187. my 2187 was/is a > pristine rpm'd kernel. no 3rd party drivers in it at all. > > this doesn't seem to be a good list to get much help with kernel > problems. > > john > > > -- > cleverly disguised as a responsible adult. >
