So I mounted the kubu partition, cd-ed to /boot therein, and find
nothing in there.
It appears that when installing Fedora, it hosed the /boot of the kubu
install when I told grub to include kubu.
What do I have to do to get these two to play nice?

Well I have FC5, FC6T3, Ubuntu & Windows all playing fairly nice, so you
know it's possible.The easiest way I find to do this is to boot normally (it doesn't make
any difference if it is into FC or Ubuntu) edit the grub.conf (or
grub.menu if Ubuntu) tell Grub to boot to the other system the same way
you tell it to dual boot windows.
I did my system working, doing something similar to what you advise.
But I wanted to note...I haven´t the slightest idea how one does a dual
boot with windows, nor do I care to know.
I gave up that mess 7 years ago and haven´t looked back.
I do know that dualbooting to windows is a breeze when intalling FC
becuase it sees the other OS
while you re intsalling and simply offers you the option to add it to
Grub, and then sort of does
it for you automagically. for some reason it didn´t do that with
Kubuntu, but Kubuntu did do it
after several attempts...
