Did you run the first two commands that Rick mentioned?  The first
will change root to your FC5 system.  Without this you will be running
from the rescue disk and not all the commands you need are there.

The second command will mount all filesystems in /etc/fstab.

If you've performed those two steps and you still find that you don't
have /sbin/ldconfig, you'll have to look deeper at why your system is
so borked.
