"2) there is some fundamental problem that makes it difficult/impossible to make the fakeraid array visible to linux. if so,which problem?" Fakeraid not working in linux is a driver issue. And yes, for some of the more common fakeraid manufactures you can find linux drivers. Promise raid cards being one of them. If you go to your MB manufacturer website you might find linux drivers, but i doubt it. I used to pay for expensive true hardware raid cards then I switched to software raid and never looked back. The extra overhead is not noticeable and recovery/management is easier than hardware raid IMO. -fastfish On 8/26/06, James Wilkinson <fedora@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:

There are moves towards making these RAID arrays visible to Fedora (I can't diagnose why yours wasn't), but what you end up with is Linux software RAID using the disk structures that the BIOS set up -- almost exactly what you've got now, it's just that the BIOS knows about it too. It's arguably better *not* to go with the BIOS-based RAID, and just go for Linux software RAID, simply because then your RAID isn't dependent on the BIOS of the machine in question, and can be moved to a different sort of PC without problems.
