Hey guys, Thanks for all the help, I have things sorted now.It was my first time using parted - I was doing a mkpartfs with ext2 and that just produced all sorts of errors after mounting.
Following Chapter 12 of the RHEL 4 Sysadmin guide, I now have 2 nice ext3 partitions via mkpart (in parted) and mkfs.
