Evolution has that feature. Under Edit-> preferences -> Mail Preferences -> General. You can choose no notification or various forms of notification. Not an icon though.
I saw that... but I didn't want a beep (or worse, some audio file) played whenever I received an email. I wanted an icon. mail-notification does exactly what I want it to do, I am just curious as to why it isn't considered to be a "core" application. Or, did I miss some other method for getting an icon to display? Perhaps I'm in the minority in wanting an icon instead of a sound. (It is a seldom seen occurrence that my preferences and those of the majority of the rest of the world coincide.) :-) --wpd
