I don't see how you could see that being a recommendation.  More like
you're looking at a terribly incomplete list.

Certainly not.

How many drives do you need?  What is your budget?

There's good support for the fake RAID you get from the motherboard
chipsets up to 16-drive 3ware controllers.  (For 24 ports you can use
the Areca cards, which are quite nice, but you currently have to build
those drivers yourself.  It looks like they'll be going into the
kernel soon.)
