hi matt... i really wanted to take a loko at eclipse.. to get a feel for it... i managed to load the sun bin package and to get eclipse to fire up.. nice package... although i did have to rm the eclipse from /usr/bin and do a symbolic link to the eclipse in the /usr/share/eclipse dir... i'll tackle the real issue of building the correct sun java later... -bruce -----Original Message----- From: Matthew Saltzman [mailto:mjs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 1:20 PM To: bedouglas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; For users of Fedora Core releases Subject: Re: FC4 and Java... That *is* the RPM package. It's just that you have to build it yourself. The JPackage RPMs are designed to integrate properly with Fedora. The Sun RPMs are broken. The Sun .bin distribution doesn't integrate at all. If all you want is the browser plugin, it doesn't matter much, but if you are doing anything more sophisticated than that, you definitely want to follow the JPackage Way. It looks scary at first, but it's really not that hard... > > -bruce > > > -- Matthew Saltzman Clemson University Math Sciences mjs AT clemson DOT edu http://www.math.clemson.edu/~mjs
