Is there any chance the problems with using the Sun Java plugin
with Fedora Core 4 or 5 will be resolved soon? I have been unable to
use the java plugin as installed by either the jpackage nosrc rpms or
manually installing the binary installer for linux on either FC4 or
FC5. This is across about 7 machines I have installed here. In all
cases I end up with a red X when I attempt to load the java applet
at the testvm web page...

This problem is really getting old and makes MacOS X look like a
better choice for a workstation.

ps I can't believe this problem doesn't get more discussion here
as it is a major regression. FYI, I tried the latest b87 release
of Java 1.6 and it doesn't work any better.

I don't know what you're on about to be honest. I have yet to see an FC4 or FC5 (i386) box for which the JPackage method does *not* work:

For x86_64, there is no browser plugin, so I wouldn't expect that to work.
