GTK+ is released under the LGPL, which means that you are permitted to dynamically link a proprietary application to it and use it. Take a look at VMware, for example, which uses it as the primary GUI toolkit. Theoretically, you could also write a bare toolkit above the Xlib layer, which you could make entirely proprietary.
