Laptop hangs on "unloading iptable modules .. "

Happens on my Acer laptop with 2.6.16 kernel. It can't be shut down, cos
it hangs on "unloading iptable kernel modules .. ". When I kill iptables
by hand, shutdown works as it should. Any clue why this happens?
