Thanks for the response. I'm assuming you are using the Add/Remove Software menu item. a.k.a Package Manager, a.k.a. pirut. Both http and ftp are utilized. You may want to run "ethereal" while running to see if you can get a hint as to where/when it is failing for you. Ed
