Did you remove the other mplayerplug-in first?

You also may need to delete your .mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat in order
to reset the plugins, after you remove the old plugin.  Also don't
forget that your browser needs to be shut down and restarted after the
FC5 plugin is installed.

Above, you have the FC4 version of the plugin listed, is that actually
what you downloaded?  There is a typo on the sourceforge FC5 plugin
link, perhaps that is where you are getting that.

Also, have you installed the win32 codecs in 
/usr/local/lib/win32?


Finally, before you install the sourceforge FC5 mplayer plugin make sure
this does not exist:

/usr/lib/mozilla/pluginsmplayerplug-in-rm.so
