It did not see the hard disk, presumably because it did not install the correct SCSI driver. Or maybe there was a timeout problem - the SCSI driver seems to take an inordinate time to start up. The default kernel with FC-4 did not run on this machine either; I had to install a kernel from a previous version. Only compiled kernels have run on this machine since Redhat-8.1, IIRC. But Knoppix runs fine, as does rtbt - both see the hard disk. Nb I'm not complaining about this, simply answering your question. Incidentally, Windows-2000 did not install on this machine either. It was already too late by the time I was asked if I wanted to use an supplementary driver disk. I installed NT-4, and updated to Windows-2000. But that is another story. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail (<80k only): tim /at/ birdsnest.maths.tcd.ie tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland
