I made the jump to FC5 two days ago, and it's great, but the installation was painful. To begin with, the FC5 install wouldn't go through at all(Possibly a problem with the DVD), so I had to wipe my disk, install a minimal install of FC4 and then upgrade. That worked fine. Now I tried to add various software groups, and Pirut went nuts on me. I spent a long time selecting the packages, and then after grinding away, it spat out a bunch of dependency errors at me. I was connected to the internet, and I had installed nothing outside of the core and extras repos, so it didn't make sense. I tried to install some of the packages that had unresolved dependencies (most of them seemed to do with mono - f-spot was one of them) through yum, and that worked fine. I then went back to Pirut, and selected a smaller group of packages, and the install went smoothly. Started Pirut again to add some more software, and that also went fine - until i realised that Pirut had removed a bunch of software (openoffice. evolution) that it didn't tell me it was going to remove. I did this cycle a few more times, and found stuff like gnome and kde being removed at random. I eventually gave up and did the entire install through yum. Has anyone seen this issue? I couldn't find anything in bugzilla. Nikhil Fernandes
