Yes that was good.

I am not sure what the protocol model was called when I first
learnt how different protocols worked over different media.
To be honest, I don't think it had a name, we learnt how serial,
ethernet, token ring and a number of different bus technologies
worked then we learnt about Dec LAT, XNS, IP, IPX and some
others. The only one I work with now is IP but when I worked
for Xerox I dealt with all of them but mostly XNS. It has been
10 years since I have used anything but IP and bit of EtherTalk.
I have complete left out all the non ethernet protocols.

PS I found a Vampire Tap Kit a few months ago cleaning out an
old desk. The "youths" I work with had no idea what it was,
and when I told them how it was used, they thought I was joking.
I also found an AUI cable, and showed them how networking
old school was done with a couple of Cisco 2500's without using
any transceivers. The had no idea that you could network
machines together over ethernet with out using RJ45 patch
cables. They thought I was tricking them and using a serial
cable.
