I never used a beamer with my laptop & FC5 but when it had FC4 I had to
use ¨Depth 16¨ in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

OT: don´t remember where I read it but there was someone who had
succeeded in configuring his normal X session under for example alt-f7
and a beamer session under for example alt-f8. This way he could make
changes in his presentation on his ¨normal¨ screen and show the updated
version on the beamer screen. Sounded pretty useful to me.
