I am running 2.6.15-1.1831_FC4 kernel

 Is the MATSHITADVD-ROM SW-9585  - not MATSHITADVD-RAM SW-9585 ?
 So far, it looks to me as though neither registers as a dvdwriter.

Are you saying that this is not a Writer, or is not reconigzed as a writer by Linux ? (see blow output of cdrecord).

On other hand, if there is a DVD writter which work well with Linux, let me know and I can probably exchange for it.
