I have heard a few reports to this effect.  Strangely enough, if
worked fine for me in the FC5 test releases (haven't installed FC5
proper yet) and I have a 6600 GT PCI-e on x86_64.

Yes, I think so.  That kernel was supposed to be pushed to updates
recently, but apparently something is holding it up (I don't know
what).  Should be out soon, though; hopefully.
