The first entry is not checked, the last two are checked. I suppose
checking the first entry would save your session on exit. Unchecking
it after you have options as desired should keep the terminal on
desktop 4 as you desire.
Yes, but there's a problem when you un-check that entry. The next time
you start your session, you'll get a couple of unwanted windows.

I guess running gnome-session-save if you wanted to make a few default
open apps would be better then instead of using the check box.
Thanks for pointing out the bug. I guess it is a David Gilmore
interface. (no way out, once checked there is no backing out.)
