What happens then if you try to use the ip instead of the name in the net use command on the dos box? You can use the hosts file (similar to the lmhosts file) on the dos box to associate the name of the linux box with its ip. Then you ought to be be to ping by name. Are there any other boxes on the network that you could test against the linux box? That would help you determine if samba isn't functioning or configured properly, or if it's the dos box that is in need of the fixing. - -- Todd OpenPGP -> KeyID: 0xD654075A | URL: www.pobox.com/~tmz/pgp ====================================================================== I do not believe in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance. -- Thomas Carlyle -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: When crypto is outlawed bayl bhgynjf jvyy unir cevinpl. iG0EARECAC0FAkQZ7K0mGGh0dHA6Ly93d3cucG9ib3guY29tL350bXovcGdwL3Rt ei5hc2MACgkQuv+09NZUB1pdiwCaAkc62y/x2kg8USRuFc1jtYTGDRsAn0kNrEAt qJ/LGIcPjQ8Hz26XnAxu =GwEy -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
