In general, rpms are all self-contained. AFAIK, there is no (easy/sane) way to expand an rpm, modify it, and pack it back together. The recommended method of modifying existing rpms is to start with its SOURCE rpm, or srpm, make your modifications, and then (re)build from that. -- Rex
