You'd have to be actively looking out for that sort of thing. I'm sure there are experimenters who'll install everything just to look for problems, and they can do that. I'm sure that there are people who'll install everything just for simplicities sake, leave themselves open to exploitation, do nothing to find out that they've been exploited.
