For what it's worth, I've been using full data journaling on all of my partitions for the past year or so (from an old Athlon box to my current P4-based setup), and have not noticed any significant decrease in performance from ordered data mode (the default). This is just a standard "desktop/workstation" computer, with some testbed server stuff too (Apache/PHP/MySQL/etc.) In fact, journal data mode can actually be faster in some cases (mainly where much reading/writing is to be done to the disk at once), according to Daniel Robbin's article[1] on IBM's site (though this is old, it still seems to be somewhat relevant).
