FC4 won't come up (X problem?)

I added some repos (extra and nrpms) to get yum to update (specifically firefox and thunderbird).  Yum updated 134 packages and installed 13 for deps. 

A new kernel was one of the updates.    (I'm not at home, so I can't remember what kernel version). 

 

Now, when I boot, FC4 comes up, ok.  It makes it all the way to where X would load and it hangs with vertical black and white lines.  Ctl-alt-del doesn't work, alt-f2 etc, doesn't work either.

Any ideas?  I Will try to boot single tomrrow and troubleshoot further.  It is an SMP machine, Dell Precision 220 with a matrox, G450 or 550 card.
