Have you tried kermit? It's complicated to get going
and hard to use after that... But, it works on just
about everything. For a lot of purposes you can completely
script operations so you don't have to deal with it again
and it has the advantage that it works the same over
tcp and serial connections so that when you move the
serial device to a terminal server a tiny change in the
connect part of the script is all you have to do to keep
using it.
