Doesn't work for me:

# star -t -z -v -f  initrd-2.6.14-1.1656_FC4.img
star: XXXXX xftype == 0 (typeflag = '' 0x00)
  0   0 U--x-----x    0/0   Jan  1 01:01 1970 .
star: XXXXX xftype == 0 (typeflag = '' 0x00)
  0   0 U--x-----x   2   0/0   Jan  1 01:01 1970 sysroot
star: XXXXX xftype == 0 (typeflag = '' 0x00)
  0   0 U-w------x   1   0/0   Jan  1 01:01 1970 init
star: Wrong magic at: 0: '#!/bin'.
star: 3 blocks + 0 bytes (total of 30720 bytes = 30.00k).
# which star
/usr/bin/star
# rpm -qf /usr/bin/star
star-1.5a54-2

This works:

# gzip -cd initrd-2.6.14-1.1656_FC4.img|cpio -t -v
