I just download it all to my hard drive and make my local filesystem
the yum mirror using the file:///local/yum/mirror syntax.

That way I can "trickle" down the updates at whatever speed the
mirrors will send it and I run yum -y upgrade on whichever software is
causing the most pain.

IE, I avoid doing a yum -y upgrade  enmasse to avoid causing "more"
problems instead of less.
