Hey,

No, it worked quite fine with yum... I installed the following packages and it is now running perfectly:

yum install
mplayer (the player itself)
mplayer-gui (GUI for the player, other is only text based)
mplayer-codecs & mplayer-codecs-extra (Codecs)
mplayer-skin-default & mplayer-skin-* (Skins for the GUI version)

Now MPlayer works quite fine, and plays all files that I know of (.wmv, .mp3, .avi, .mpeg, .mov, ...etc)
