Snort - tgz or rpm?

hello,

time ago I've installed Snort on my FC3 following the great Patrick Harper
guide at:

http://www.ntsug.org/docs/snort_base_fc3.pdf

here the recommended installation is "from scratch" with the tarballs, and
-I think from my newbie PoV- a bit "customized", right?

now I'm tempted to quickly upgrade with a classic:

rpm -Uvh snort-2.4.3-1.FC3.i386.rpm

but the "suspected customization" of the previous installation make me
dubious about the success of this strategy

so...any suggestion?

as always, thanks a lot in advance for your reply,

bye

Fabiano
