This IS NOT a software function!!! Yes, it is a software function! If you remove the drive while Linux is running, it freezes. I used to be able to do this on the 2.4 kernel by doing an "rmmod ide-scsi". Earlier in the 2.5/2.6 days, I was able to use a nice program called hotswap (used to be at http://users.ox.ac.uk/~univ1377/, but appears to be gone), but that quit working around 2.6.6. Anyone have any ideas about how to make the kernel let go of IDE devices? > HTH, > Tom > > -- > Tom Taylor > Linux user #263467 > Federal Way, WA > Iraq war: 1,962 US soldiers dead and counting Thanks, Brandon
