Add page number to a scanned PDF

Hello,
Sorry if this is a bit OT, but I thought I ask here since this list is very
resourceful.
I have PDF file resulting from a scanned (handwritten) notes. For example,
when I open it with acroread (or evince), the PDF shows there are 10 pages.
Unfortunately, the original notes doesn't have page numbering on them, hence
neither does the scanned version.

Is there any easy way, ie. by converting to postscript, then use any ps
utility or something, so that my electronic version can have a simple page
numbering ? I've been looking/playing around with 'convert', the 'ps2*',
'psto*', 'pdf*' utilities but nothing come to mind on how to do this yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
RDB
