DESCRIPTION
smartctl controls the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technol-
ogy (SMART) system built into many ATA-3 and later ATA, IDE and SCSI-3
       hard drives.

Smartctl is even able to probe devices inside a 3ware raid.
