Hi,
My Fedora machine is still very unstable - after I
applied all the latest maintenance last week 15 August
2005 - I'm convinced it's not a coincidence - but I
can't prove it.
I actually found the following messages at the end
of /var/log/messages - that may give clue to what is
happening. Usuaully when the machine has a problem -
the windows hang or do not open or the machine crashes
back to command line with nothing written to the log.
I feel the most relevant messages are:
Aug 21 16:52:27 localhost gconfd (root-2835): SIGHUP
received, reloading all databases
Aug 21 16:52:27 localhost gconfd (root-2835): Received
signal 11, dumping core. Please report a GConf bug.
Signal 11 is usually bad RAM.
Try a memory test.
A full memtest86 will usually tell you. You'll need to run it overnight
because if you select the full suite it can take 14 hours or so.

Ed.
