Hi, My Fedora machine is still very unstable - after I applied all the latest maintenance last week 15 August 2005 - I'm convinced it's not a coincidence - but I can't prove it. I actually found the following messages at the end of /var/log/messages - that may give clue to what is happening. Usuaully when the machine has a problem - the windows hang or do not open or the machine crashes back to command line with nothing written to the log. I feel the most relevant messages are: Aug 21 16:52:27 localhost gconfd (root-2835): SIGHUP received, reloading all databases Aug 21 16:52:27 localhost gconfd (root-2835): Received signal 11, dumping core. Please report a GConf bug. Where do I look for that GConf "dump core"? Where do I post the info I find? Anyone else getting this instability with Fedora 4 kernel 2.6.12 Thanks Clive ********************************* Last messages follow ****************************** Aug 21 16:05:47 localhost ntpd[2303]: frequency initialized 6.022 PPM from /var/lib/ntp/drift Aug 21 16:05:47 localhost ntpd[2303]: configure: keyword "authenticate" unknown, line ignored Aug 21 16:05:47 localhost proftpd[2311]: localhost.localdomain - ProFTPD 1.2.10 (stable) (built Mon Aug 1 18:09:36 EDT 2005) standalone mode STARTUP Aug 21 16:05:48 localhost gpm[2319]: *** info [startup.c(95)]: Aug 21 16:05:48 localhost gpm[2319]: Started gpm successfully.
