Hi,
Does anyone have experience with getting this thing working on FC4 or Linux in general? Or have any other good recommendations of wireless lan cards to buy which work?

Help with links explaining wireless networks with Linux are welcome. I have googled around, but still am a bit in the dark what to install for security, etc.

Jeroen

It all comes down to chipset Jeroen.

You need to find out which chipset your card is. I'd recommend lspci to find out but I don't know whether that works for PC cards?

There's really two main projects I've worked with in the past: one was mentioned by the other poster - madwifi. This only works with Atheros chip based cards. The other popular one is ndiswrapper. It is a pain to compile, as you will need the source RPMs for the kernel, expand the tree, copy the config file and run make before you can even start with compiling the ndiswrapper.

However, it uses NDIS drivers. These drivers ship with most Wifi cards, and indeed, even my weird D-Link G122 USB (Prism Chipset) now works on my old notebook using these drivers.

When they're set up they work really well.

There's a list of supported cards and chipsets on the ndiswrapper site.

P.S. When you find out what chipset your card is, you MAY want to see if there's a native Linux driver available for it first.

Ed.
