Which is trivially remedied by commenting out the UseTheme line from
/etc/X11/xdm/kdmrc.

Upgrading that package doesn't help, BTW.  It just seems to drop two
symlinks in /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/Bluecurve but doesn't include
an actual theme.
