It would seem that I may have munged things in my unknowledgeable exuberance. I discovered that my original named.conf had been symlinked to the chroot one in my default installation. It had been converted to a regular file when I tried to edit it in some early stage of this process. The statements that I tried to alter were the controls entries. I've got all this straightened out, and now things are different, not working still, but for a different reason. If I try to restart named I get the following after a Ctl-c because it fails to be able to stop it: [root@viewridgeproductions2 etc]# service named restart Stopping named: [FAILED] Starting named: Error in named configuration: /etc/named.conf:33: missing ';' before 'zone' [FAILED] That line starts the following: zone "." IN { type hint; file "named.ca"; }; I'm not sure now, where that entry came from. I didn't put it in there consciously, but, there it is - I guess it is choking on the period, but my first read of man named.conf doesn't tell me anything. I'm not sure where to look next. -- Claude Jones Bluemont, VA, USA
