problems with kernel 2.6.12-1.1372 on FC3

Kernel 2.6.12-1.1372_FC3smp and 2.6.12-1.1372_FC3 fail to boot on
both my desktop machines and our main mail server, both running Fedora
Core 3.  They panic at the pivotroot stage.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  There are several bugs in
bugzilla that could be this problem, but
