Thanks,

Please don't top-post. And you might hit RETURN a little
more often.

In FC4 entering root password does work. However, I tried all methods listed and I do not know the command to get out of the virtual consol. I had to issue the reboot command.

I don't understand what your problem is at this point.
Are you saying you tried CTRL-ALT-F2 and couldn't get
a login prompt?

Apparently you can unlock any user by entering the root password.
I've never tried.

I just tried (FC2) and that does not work here.

As an alternative, ssh to the machine, or switch to a virtual console
(Ctrl+Alt+F1), log in as root, then run pkill xscreensaver.

CTRL-ALT-F2 might be better, since on some computers (apparently
according to some posts here earlier) CTRL-ALT-F1 turns some
computers OFF.

I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
I speak only for myself, and I am unanimous in that!
