My PPC is now kernel panic on insertion of a data DVD (it wasn't out of
the box)
I haven't tried an update, since it isn't networked - DVD is how I
update (I put updates onto dvd and yum update from file:/// ) - I'm
going to put it on the network to see if an update works.

On my laptop, which I usually also update by DVD (wireless router tends
to drop out when transfering lots of large files, there's a firmware
update but I just haven't applied it yet) started acting funny too - it
will yum update from a mounted iso, but won't from the physical DVD - it
did just a few weeks ago. It does read the DVD though - and md5sum works
on all files of the DVD, so the drive can read the disk just fine.

So something weird is definitely up with DVD's. Probably CD's too.
