Why should a recompiled kernel help if you have not any indication what the problem is caused from? > JA I guess it is the known problem with IPv6 being active. In /etc/modprobe set # Turn off IPv6 alias net-pf-10 off alias ipv6 off and then reboot and see if that helps. Another thing to check is that /etc/hosts is proper and contains a valid localhost line and an entry for your chosen hostname.
