Dear friends:

I did install my Scientific Linux system from data CD's, using my
CD/CDWriter drive (hdc). But now it turns out that I cannot transfer any
of my data files from a data CD to my computer using my CD/CDWriter
drive. I can only do it using my DVD drive, whose contents show up
correctly in File Manager.

Thank you.

Benjamin

Hi Benjamin

is that data cd really a cd, or is it a dvd. on the other hand, is your
cdwriter also a dvd player, and if so, does it support the dvd media
(aka does it do dvd+-r/rw, or has it certain spec limitations?).

Dear Oliver:

Thanks so much for responding.

1) It really is a data CD. In fact, I compiled it using K3b on a CD-RW disk.

2) My CD/CDWriter is ONLY a CDWriter. It cannot write DVD. My DVD drive is just a DVD Player, not a DVD writer. It came with my Dell Dimension 8200, which I bought five years ago.

Thanks again.

Benjamin
